First, murmur would like to thank you for your interest in our charity projects. We believe that when we do well we should pass on our good fortune to others who need help. That said, we have two groups we are involved with.
The first is All for Humanity, a charitable organization in which Rhonda DeJong is one of the founders and current President. All For Humanity consists of five Canadian women who share a passion for improving the quality of life for children worldwide. Their focus is on impoverished regions of the world that have few options for support. They take a hands-on approach to projects, and work directly with the children and their communities. 35% of all Gifts from Ghana purchases will be donated to All For Humanity and go towards supporting basic human needs such as food, shelter and clothing. This will also supply medicine and educational material. Future goals will address access to education, health care, clean water and sustainable development by providing communities with the tools to meet their own needs. The current focus in Ghana is to help vulnerable children living in unhealthy, unregulated environments through a long term commitment to education and by supporting the country’s efforts towards deinstitutionalization.
The second project is Inn from the Cold, which Heather Bateman became involved with 8 years ago. This is a Calgary-based organization that provides temporary emergency shelter for homeless families. Partnering with many other community agencies, they offer the programs and services needed to rebuild lives and create a hopeful future for those who need it most. Later this year murmur will host a special fundraiser where a percentage of proceeds from the day will go directly to Inn from the Cold. Check the murmur events page or our Facebook page for more details this fall.
murmur has also teamed up with Ronald McDonald House to collect pop can tabs. Drop off your pop can tabs, and we will forward them on to the Ronald McDonald House of Southern Alberta. Ronald McDonald House, along with their recycling partner, Westcan Recyclers Ltd., recycles the tabs and receives money as you would from pop cans and bottles. The money raised goes right back into the community and helps the families of sick children in our community. For more information on the wonderful work Ronald McDonald House does, visit their site.
As an aside, if you’ve made it into murmur you’ll know that the Escama handbags we carry are made from pop top tabs. Escama is making very good use of pop can tabs and supporting a Women’s Cooperative based in Brazil. You can read about their good work on the Escama site.
